There are a couple of reasons you may want to schedule a dental checkup for the late summer, from convenience to health.
Better now than later
According to the American Dental Association, children miss over 51 million hours of school every year for dental care.
By visiting the dentist before school starts, you accomplish two things. If your child gets a good dental report, you don’t have to bring them back for six months. And if we notice an issue, like cavities, you have time to get the problem fixed before the heart of the school year.
Reinforcing good habits
Good habits are the bedrock of a healthy mouth. The start of school is a great time to get the whole family into an oral health routine.
Not all children master brushing on the first try — you may need to help the youngest (6 and under), even if they think they deserve an A-plus. Flossing should start as soon as your child has two teeth that touch; most kids can do this themselves by second or third grade.
